Dear Make Music Salem participants,
After much deliberation and in following suit with cities around the world, due to the COVID-19 health situation we are disappointed to announce that we will not be moving forward with the traditional outside Make Music Day events on Sunday, June 21st. We want to keep everyone safe and healthy, so instead we will come together virtually to celebrate music, our community, and our city. While the majority of our performances normally take place in downtown Salem, being completely virtual this year will allow us to expand our reach beyond the city lines, and connect with musicians all over the state of Oregon.
We are working with the national Make Music Alliance and cities across the country to finalize what a virtual Make Music Salem will look like, and we will have more details in the coming weeks. Our hope is to transition the majority of what typically takes place during Make Music Salem and bring it to you virtually; play-a-long events, music lessons, individual performances, and even group collaborations. There are many ideas in development, but if you have any suggestions, ideas, or interest in putting something together please send us an email.
Should the current health situation change drastically over the next few weeks, we are putting plans in place to be able to transition back outside.
Stay tuned for another update in the coming weeks. In the meantime, stay safe, healthy and happy, and thank you for sharing your music with us.
We know that for many of you, gigs are your primary source of income and we want to do our best to support you during this time. If you are doing live virtual shows, we would love to share these on our social media pages! Email us at salem@makemusicday.org with details!
